I don't know who made the first pickup. If it was Ford and two years later Dodge came out with one too, then I would say that Dodge copied the idea from Ford.
Fifty years later, when pickups are a mature vehicle segment of their own, then I wouldn't accuse Dodge or Chevy of copying from Ford. I guess one could argue that cruiser motorcycles are a mature market now and that it's Harley that is borrowing from the Japanese (witness the V-Rod).
